About France On Foot
WALKING IN FRANCE -
HOW TO USE THIS SITE:

This site is dedicated to the little known French trail system, which is made up of an astounding 110,000 miles of off-road foot paths. (If you are completely unfamiliar with France's great path system, click here for a short overview.) I've written a book, France on Foot, that explains in detail how to take a walking vacation in France on your own, and the book is, of course, covered here. But the main reason I maintain the site is to post current news about all the changes, resources and links I have learned about since the book was published. Therefore France on Foot.com is divided into two sections.

The most dynamic is the section that deals with updates and current news about walking in France. Click any of the red buttons and you'll discover pages that are full of questions, answers and information about French trails that have been added by me or e-mailed to this site by both experienced and novice walkers. News about the paths, suggestions about clothing and equipment, resources for maps and guidebooks and a large collection of links will help anyone setting out on foot to walk from village to village and from hotel to hotel in France.

The blue buttons will lead you to information about France on Foot, with a complete table of contents, reviews from both the media and readers, author and photographer biographies and a sample chapter. The book is a detailed instruction manual—256 pages long—about how to plan and then take an independent walking vacation on French paths. First-time walkers will find advice about equipment, maps, guidebooks, trails, resources and more, in fact about everything needed to set out on your own for a day, a week or longer on the French Grande Randonnee paths. As a bonus, many have called the book a good read as well.

With France on Foot in hand and the Updates on your screen you can't go wrong!
