Bruce LeFavour is a professional chef who, over a twenty-three year period, owned and operated three small but aclaimed restaurants: the Paragon in Aspen, Colorado, Robinson Bar Ranch in central Idaho and Rose et LeFavour in California's Napa Valley.
His first extended stay in France began in 1958 courtesy of everbody's favorite uncle, Sam, and he emerged from his three-year tour of duty a confirmed Francophile. During his career as a chef-restaurateur he traveled there by car and bicycle whenever he could leave his stoves. Now, retired from the restaurant business, he roamsas frequently as possiblethe French countryside on foot.
Faith Echtermeyer's ability to capture the feel as well as the look of a scene is remarkable. A professional photographer for over twenty years, her pictures illustrate Chronicle Books' successful Garden Style series (twelve titles), Faith Willinger's guidebook, Eating in Italy (published by William Morrow), Susan Costner's three cookbooksGreat Sandwiches (James Beard award), Good FriendsGreat Dinners (both published by Crown) and Mostly Vegetables (published by Bantam) as well as magazine articles in, among others, Gourmet, Appelation, Wine & Spirits, California Home and Garden Design.
Faith and Bruce are married and live in the Napa Valley.

I walked through the mountains today. The weather was damp, and the entire region was gray. But the road was soft and in places very clean... A village was especially beautiful with humble dwellings set thickly under the white cliffs. I encountered a few carts, otherwise nothing, and I had seen some children on the highway. We don't need to see anything out of the ordinary. We already see so much.
